Costs vary based on whether the stairlift is straight or curved, and new or reconditioned. You can read further details on stairlift costs here..
How long will it take to install my stairlift?
Our expert, friendly engineer will install a straight stairlift in around 2-3 hours. Curved stairlifts take a little longer, but we should still be done and tidied within 4-5 hours.
Once the installation is complete, your Leodis engineer will clear away any packaging, and leave your stairway clean and tidy. He will then show you how to operate your stairlift, let you try it out, and answer any queries you may have. Only when you are satisfied do you pay.

What happens if I no longer need my stairlift?
Not every stairlift we install will be required forever. But as long term injuries heal, or long-awaited operations happen, you may find not every stairlift company wants to get involved in removing your stairlift. They just want to install them.
At Leodis, we offer a complete package from installation to removal. We may even buy back your stairlift. We can’t promise that it will always happen, and it will depend on a number of factors, including:
- Make and model of stairlift
- The age of your stairlift
- Whether it was bought new or reconditioned
- Our current stock levels
Even if we don’t buy back your stairlift, we will be able to remove it for a small fee, and even put you in contact with someone who may be interested in taking it.
Can I rent a stairlift?
Yes, stairlift rental is available. To explore if it’s the right option for you, see our detailed Stairlift Rental Guide covering pros, cons, and how the process works.
Can stairlifts be removed?

Types of Stairlifts & Staircase Compatibility
Wondering if your home is suitable for a stairlift? Learn the difference between straight and curved stairlifts, and discover how we install stairlifts on virtually any staircase, including narrow or unusual layouts.
Can stairlifts go around corners?
Curved stairlifts can be fitted new or reconditioned, and they’re available to both purchase and as a rental. Even more complex staircases can be tackled. For example, with spiral staircases we use a ‘freecurve’ staircase to effortlessly move along the constantly bending track. Will my stairlift be attached to the wall?
What’s the difference between a straight and a curved stairlift?
A straight stairlift runs along a single flight of stairs. A curved stairlift is custom-built to follow bends, landings, or spiral staircases.
Can stairlifts be fitted to any staircase?
Yes. We install stairlifts on straight, curved, and narrow staircases, both indoors and outdoors.
I have a narrow staircase – can I get one to fit?
Most likely, yes. Slimline models are designed for staircases at least 750mm (29 inches) wide and include foldable seats and footrests to maximise space.

I have difficulty in bending my knees or hips – can I still use a stairlift?
Yes. Perch or standing stairlifts allow you to stand during use, which is ideal if sitting is uncomfortable. You’ll need to be steady on your feet.
I have arthritis in my hands – will I still be able to use my stairlift?
Yes. Stairlifts come with large, simple controls and remote handsets that are easy to use, even with reduced grip or joint pain.
My partner doesn’t want to use the stairlift – will he/she still be able to use the stairs normally?
Yes. The seat, armrests, and footrest fold up neatly, leaving the staircase clear for other users.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I keep my stairlift charged?
In the case of some of our stairlifts, the whole track is a charge point, so you needn’t worry about running the chair right to the end of the track.
Will my stairlift be attached to the wall?
Are stairlifts safe and easy to use?
Absolutely. All our models meet the latest safety standards. Features include smooth stops, obstruction detection, seat belts, and easy-to-use controls.
How do stairlifts work?
A stairlift is a motorised seat that moves along a rail fixed to your staircase. It carries you safely up and down using battery power, with controls for easy operation and automatic recharging.
There is a doorway at the bottom of my stairs and my stairlift will be in the way – what can I do?
Many stairlifts offer hinged or folding tracks that lift out of the way when not in use. These can be manual or powered, preventing obstruction and trip hazards.
