Curved Stairlifts in Manchester – Manchester Installation

Recently one of our senior engineers, Michael, installed a stairlift in Manchester. The home featured a modern, beautiful hallway and the homeowners were worried about two things: losing their hallway space and ruining their home’s aesthetic.

This case study highlights Michael’s approach to the installation that perfectly balances accessibility with clever, space-saving design.

The Stairlift Challenge

The property featured beautiful oak flooring and a bright, open-plan layout leading directly into the kitchen area. However, the wooden staircase featured a sharp turn at the bottom, directly adjacent to a high-traffic walkway and a kitchen entrance.

The client needed a solution that restored full access to the upstairs bedrooms without compromising the flow of their ground floor.

A Custom Curved Rail with a Parking Wrap

To solve this, our engineer designed a custom-fitted curved stairlift rail. Instead of stopping abruptly at the bottom step, the rail was engineered to curve 90 degrees around the feature wall. As seen in above, this allows the stairlift to sit completely off the staircase when not in use, parking neatly flat against the wall beneath the homeowner’s artwork.

To ensure the busy walkway remained entirely unhindered, we selected a model with an ultra-slim rail and design. As shown, The Leodis 180 arms, seat, and footrest fold up tightly. This completely clears the path through to the kitchen, even with the safety gate in place, allowing family members and pets to pass by without restriction.
