“How fast do stairlifts go?”
Don’t worry, it’s a stairlift, not a roller coaster.
It’s one of those questions our customers tend not to think about until we’re midway through their stairlift installation, and then suddenly it hits them: what if their stairlift zips around too quickly?
But there’s no need to worry. Whichever stairlift you choose, you’re in for a gentle ride.
That’s true of every stairlift, but speeds do vary slightly.
Our typical domestic straight stairlifts operate between 0.15 and 0.34 (approx.) miles per hour. That’s a fraction of average walking speed.
They start extremely gently and work up to operating speed, so you won’t experience a jerky start to your journey. And if you’re using a curved stairlift you’ll notice the seat slows on bends for added safety.
What’s more, the movement of the seat is entirely under your control.
You’ll never experience anything more than the gentlest of journeys up or down the stairs, but if for some reason you do want to stop the stairlift mid-journey, you can.
Just let go of the toggle lever.
